Annette Skovsted Hansen is associate professor of Japanese and Global History at Aarhus University and has participated in the two previous Africa-Asia, A New Axis of Knowledge conferences in Accra and Dar Es Salaam, respectively, as well as, seminars in New Delhi and at Harvard University to engage in conversations about the benefit to Asian Studies world wide of having Asian Studies at African Universities. She worked for eight years as international staff member of the United Nations and was a member of the national research council under the Danish Foreign Ministry for seven years. Her research in global networks of private sector professionals who have participated in training courses in Japan led to her leading a multidisciplinary research project about the tensions between 'safety' and 'efficiency' in the Port of Tema in Ghana (PEPP) at a time when a new terminal opened. PEPP I and II (2019-2025) resulted in the establishment of the Africa Blue Economy Network by the Ghanaian researchers in the project and publications pertaining to various aspects of port management, communication, and economic, social, and environmental sustainability. Her main contribution to research is to multidisciplinary and multinational research conversations.
