Dr. Jeon holds a BA in African Studies (Swahili) from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and spent 20 years managing youth and education-focused projects across Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania as a regional director of an international non-profit organization. He later pursued a Master’s degree in Counseling and Clinical Psychology and earned a PhD in Educational Technology, with a research focus on strengths-based and value-centered learning using the Appreciative Inquiry Teaching and Learning model.
As a regional Africa specialist and research professor at the Institute of African Studies at HUFS, he leads interdisciplinary studies in Swahili linguistics, AI-assisted language education, and field-based development cooperation. His academic interests include local language-driven socio-cultural research and enhancing Korea-Africa educational partnerships.
Jeon recently published a book on Bongo Flava, a Tanzanian popular music genre, examining its cultural relevance in East Africa and its dynamic role in spreading the Swahili language. He is actively involved in Swahili corpus development and ODA evaluations in rural development, education, and health sectors. Committed to fostering meaningful Korea-Africa engagement, he welcomes collaboration with scholars and institutions exploring language, culture, and education for sustainable development.
