Julien holds a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology from the University of Lille, France, preceded by two Master's degrees (in Urbanism and Anthropology). He is currently working at TSI (Technical School of Innovation / American University of Central Asia), where he implemented and manages the First Year Seminar (FYS) program for undergraduate students. In parallel to his teaching, he has conducted a study on the various contemporary interpretations of the Kyrgyz national epic Manas and their relations to identity formation, epic performance, dichotomous and dialectical processes between the strong ethnicization of local culture and its international promotion.
