Aude Tournaye is an interdisciplinary practitioner with a degree in art history, archaeology, art criticism, and curating from VUB (Be), Columbia University (USA), and Paris 1 - Sorbonne (Fr). Aude's projects span continents, with a unique focus on collaborative work with entities such as Twenty Nine Studio (DRC/BE), Picha (DRC), the Lubumbashi Biennale (DRC), Kanal - Centre Pompidou (BE), CIVA (BE), Académie des Beaux-Arts de Kinshasa (DRC), Limiditi (MA), MACAAL (MA), and more.
As a PhD student at Columbia’s Department of Middle East, South Asia, and African Studies (MESAAS), she explores Senegalese art collectives' artistic and political contributions, particularly the Laboratoire Agit’Art, from the late 20th century. She examines how these groups challenged established artistic norms, redefined cultural identity, and engaged in political discourse by blending local traditions with global avant-garde movements. Her research also delves into the implications of their ephemeral, collective practices on interpreting archives and the broader discourse surrounding art's role in political resistance.
