Dr. Nur Widiyanto, M.A. is an Associate Professor at Ambarrukmo Tourism Institute of Yogyakarta. He graduated from the Department of Cultural Anthropology for his master's degree and Inter-Religious & Cultural Studies, Gadjah Mada University for his doctoral. In the few past years, Dr Widiyanto conducted research on local community and tourism development in Indonesia (West Java), Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak) and Thailand (Phuket) supported by The Institute of Thai Studies and The Indonesian Ministry of Higher Education (2017-2020). Part of his research has been presented in Yogyakarta, Leiden, Bangkok, Seoul and Kuala Lumpur. His last research projects were Tourism and The Better Cultural Understanding between the Japanese and Southeast Asian conducted in Penang, Bali and Hokkaido funded by The Sumitomo Foundation (2021-2022) and Venice Lagoon and The Impact of Over Tourism in Italy (2023) supported by the International Institute of Asian Studies, the Netherland. Besides authored articles in several journals, he published a travel book entitled Kalapatthar; A Cultural and Tourism Journey in Nepal, Japan from The Contemporary Indonesian Perspective and Kendahe: Mount Awu, Myth and Island Tourism in Nusa Utara (2024).
