Presentation Abstract The aim of this paper is to use a case study from Medina Sabakh, to look at the opportunities for transforming areas in the Global South through research and development. The idea stems from collaboration between Senegalese and Japanese researchers on the 'Lives Matter in Africa' project, which aims to make an interdisciplinary contribution to the sustainability of our planet at this urgent stage of the Anthropocene. The aim is to analyze the effects of the use of technologies on communities' adaptation process in the face of climate change. In Senegal, climate change is comprising food security all the more because agriculture is often subject to the vagaries of the climate (irregular rainfall), which is a source of vulnerability of the population, particularly women. During the panel, we will explore the elements needed to build a broader sense of economy in the service of sustainability, taking into consideration concrete cases in Senegal. From our interdisciplinary perspective, we discuss geography, ecosystems, cultural anthropology, education, etc..
