Fábio Baqueiro Figueiredo is Professor of Contemporary African History in the Department of History and also works in the Graduate Programs in History (PPGH) and in Ethnic and African Studies (POSAFRO) at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), Brazil. He is a historian by training and has a PhD in African Studies from UFBA (2012). He was a board member of the Brazilian Association of African Studies (2019-2022) and is one of the national coordinators of the History of Africa Workgroup in the Brazilian History Association (2021-2025). He is a permanent researcher in the Center for Afro-Oriental Studies (CEAO), and was one of the chief editors of the CEAO's journal, Afro-Ásia, from 2018 to 2023. Fábio Baqueiro Figueiredo has been a post-doctoral fellow in the University of Bayreuth, Germany (2021), and Moi University, Kenya (2024). He has conducted archival research in Brazil, Portugal, Angola, Kenya, and the United States about African nationalism and its links to knowledge production, intellectuals, and artistic expressions in nation-building, especially with regard to collective categories of social identification and political mobilization in terms of race, ethnicity, gender, youth, and religious affiliation.
