Ma Jun
Born in January 1994, Ma Jun is a lecturer specializing in Swahili at the East African Studies Center, where he also serves as the director of the Swahili Major at Shanghai International Studies University. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the Asia-Africa Studies program at Shanghai International Studies University.
His research focuses on Swahili literature and East African socio-cultural dynamics, with an emphasis on the intersection of language, literature, and society. His recent publications include “Looking Back Between the Past and the Future: Abdulrazak Gurnah and the Memory of Departure” (Foreign Literature and Art, February 2022) and “Out of the Ukingo wa Thim’: the Conflicts of Modernity in Kiswahili Drama” (Regional and National Studies, December 2023). He is also the co-translator of Daniel Ngadala’s Utamaduni na Maendeleo Nchini Tanzania (National Culture and Development in Tanzania) (Zhongxi Book Company, October 2024).
Ma Jun is committed to fostering cross-cultural understanding and advancing the study of African languages and cultures in China as an educator and researcher.
