Emi Koide

Emi Koide is an assistant professor of Visual Arts and MA in History of Africa, Diaspora and Indigenous People at the Center of Arts, Humanities and Letters (CAHL) of the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB, Brazil). She is also Senior Research Associate with the NRF/DST SARChI research programme in Geopolitics and the Arts of Africa, Fine Art Department, Rhodes University, South Africa. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Art History at Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP) and had a fellowship at the Institute for Anthropological Research in Africa at KU Leuven, Belgium, where she developed the project “Images of Africa: Specters of the Congo colonization” with support from FAPESP (2013–16).
 She coordinates the research group Áfricas nas Artes -  “Histories and Narratives of Arts  from the South in Transcultural Perspectives: circularities, currents and ressignifications” (CNPq). Currently she is a postHer research interests include African and Afro-Brazilian art, Global modernisms; contemporary practices, textile art and natural dyes.
