Naga Nandini Dasgupta trained in product design at NID, Ahmedabad. She worked with traditional artisans in eastern India for 15 years, focusing on product development and communication design. This period shaped her practice and taught her design from a frugal point of view. Craft practices are inherently frugal and living and working with artisans helped her to understand the ecosystems of sustainable practice.
Naga Nandini began teaching at Srishti in 2008 and has been part of the Frugal Design Lab from its inception. In 2015, she worked to set up a new course, 'Industrial Arts and Design Practices' at Srishti, where the curriculum put making as an integral part of the design process. She is now keen to map and understand frugality in different contexts and how this could be used as a value in the design process.
