Vineet Xie-Gupta is a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology at Northwestern University, Illinois, USA. He uses a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to examine the global circulation of knowledge and discourse. Specifically, his work investigates how experts and institutions structure geographic (in)visibilites, and identifies pathways by which (cultural) capital circulates transnationally. He investigates these issues in two empirical domains: academic knowledge production, and urban planning. He aims to produce research that can support efforts to develop more just global fields by shifting discursive power from those in the center to those historically marginalized by policy and academia.
